Ten Unexpected WWE Tag Teams That Went On To Become Champions
Cody & Alex Share Their List of Unusual Teammates
The 38th annual Royal Rumble takes place on Saturday, February 1, at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana. As of now, CM Punk and John Cena are the favorites to win and head to WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas to face either Cody Rhodes or Gunther.
Last night, I revisited the 1998 Royal Rumble, where Stone Cold Steve Austin claimed his second consecutive victory and went on to defeat Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania 14 in Boston.
The Rumble's first two competitors were Cactus Jack and Chainsaw Charlie, the alter egos of WWE Hall of Famers Mick Foley and Terry Funk. At the time, they were a tag team, having won the titles from the New Age Outlaws at WrestleMania 14 before dropping them back the next night on Raw, where X-Pac and the Outlaws joined Triple H and Chyna in DX.
This got Alex and me talking about our favorite WWE tag teams. I'll mention now that my list won’t include the Outlaws, Hardys, New Day, or Usos, as I’m focusing on more unconventional pairings. Comment below to share your favorite unusual WWE Tag teams!
